I'd like to hear more about the Alston story. Alston was one of my grad professors and I can't picture him admitting to a contradictory set of beliefs.
Thanks! I wish I remembered more details about the Alston story. I’m sure that Alston’s view was some counterintuitive position that he wanted to defend anyway, it’s just that the way Rod rephrased it, it came across as self-contradictory. It was really funny, though.
I didn't know Chisholm was such an influential figure. I'm merely a dabbler. I only know of him from his views about free will (which was my primary interest for a long while). He was a defender of agent causation, so I guessed he must be some religious exception.
